"The Weekly Dish" December 28, 2012

Aloha!

Happy Friday to you and your 'ohana. I'm sure everyone is still trying to settle down after the holidays and the end of the world scares. But, honestly, if I don't see another Christmas cookie or hear the word "Mayan" again for a very long time, that would be awesome. ;-)

Co-host Mr. Groovy Shawn Michael and I started out with a fun talk story and shared some hot topics, including Zeppelin's recent broadcast of their Kennedy Center honors and the release of "Celebration Day" DVD. We covered a few of the goofs and goodies from 2012, and dug into Maui Weekly's colorful community pages.

They have a great end-of-the-year feature this week that covers the Valley Isle's big stories in 2012, and you can read it here: http://www.mauiweekly.com/page/content.detail/id/510735/Looking-Back-on-2012.html?nav=13.

Maui Weekly does a great job of reporting and keeping it real, and I'm loving the paper's new look. Plus, there's always plenty of arts appreciation articles, small business news, residential views and community-conscious events to keep you grooving. Just visit www.mauiweekly.com to capture it all.

Some of our buddies from the BrownChicken BrownCow String Band cruised in the studio at KAOI this week, and we captured a few raw performances and good times. See the fliers below to learn where you catch a ride with these quirky and creative talents or visit www.brownchickentrain.com to keep tabs on the action.

Our buddy Shaggy of Q103 and beyond joined us in the studio, and shared his new project called "Island's Next Super Star." This radio contest invites anyone with the courage to enter a chance to win a spot as a radio DJ on the radio group's newest dial, Island 107.5Fm. Shaggy says it's similar rules to "RuPaul's Drag Race." Hahaha. You'll have to listen to today's show for more details, and visit http://island1075.com/ to learn more details in the coming week.

What do you have going on for New Year's? I know Stella's is featuring the magic of HAPA during a special dinner show, and that Three's has one of its most delicious gourmet menus yet available for your dining pleasure. The place to cut loose though is at Ambrosia Martini Lounge in Kihei. I'll be working that night with Miss Jessica Rabbitt during the popular hotspot's NYE extravaganza! Visit the event via https://www.facebook.com/events/181064968701435, and dress up for a fierce evening!

The Weekly Dish was stoked to have a visit from our good pals, Miss Rachel G and Lil Conquistadora. This inspirational wonder woman-and her lil dog too-have been a part of our radio 'ohana for over the last year, and we truly believe she is the answer for many of us that are stubborn, unhealthy and use excuses to avoid wellness. She holds the door open for you to change your life through yoga, meditation, nutrition and so much more. And, she's an amazing individual and friend as well. Besides being super sweet and funny, she is also one of the best tattoo artists the Pacific has to offer and an eclectic performer who shares her gifts across the isle's creative community. Visit Rachel G's cool businesses via www.bodyaliveyoga.com and www.exoticeyetattoo.com, and get it together in 2013!

Aloha everyone!

This morning was a funky, fresh adventure on the KAOI airwaves of The Weekly Dish radio show.

We cruised through the good news and views in the Maui Weekly community newspaper, and discovered what's going on in our cool small business 'ohana. (Visit www.mauiweekly.com and www.facebook.com/theweeklydish as well to keep tabs on all the goodness we're sharing.)

Thanks to Miss Erin Fulton for coming in the studio to share more information about the heart-warming event at Three's in Kihei tomorrow night. (See flier below for more on the Waimea Tsark fundraiser.)

I got to talk story with the iconic George Porter Jr., from the original funk legends, The Meters. So cool! His band, the Runnin' Pardners, will be gracing Maui's East Side on Dec. 21 and 22 during the Funk da End of the World party from Maui Dawg and Psychatomic.  (See flier below and keep listening to The Weekly Dish all month for more details.)
