"The Weekly Dish" December 6, 2013

Aloha!

Today was music appreciation day on The Weekly Dish radio show. Well, more than usual!

My groovy co-host Shawn Michael and I welcomed back island soul star Mishka to share more about his show at Charley's Restaurant & Saloon tonight. We played "Loving in the Making" off his new CD, "The Journey." (Buy tickets for tonight's show now via http://charleysmaui.com/show.cfm?id=134780.)

The singer/songwriter is regularly solo, but tonight, he'll welcome Maui's funk soul crew of the Freeradicals Projekt as his backing band. Bonus! And, aspiring super star and songbird babe from ZEPTEMBER IV, Miss Danielle Delaunay, opens the show. Yes!

Musical soldier Steve Hart join us to share a bit about the FILMAGE: The Story of Descendents / ALL -- Maui event at Stella Blues Cafe this Saturday, and what we can expect from his trippy solo performance. (More details via the https://www.facebook.com/events/388695164567050/)

And, so happy to have our buddy WenLu Duffy back in KAOI Studios. Wen's a great kid, and she shared some holiday music highlights, including details on Maui Youth Philharmonic Orchestra's upcoming winter concert on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 3 p.m. in Baldwin Auditorium. FREE admission.

Wen has also hooked us up with some recordings too from the MYPO, including a beautiful rendition of the classic "Procession of the Sardar" by Leonard Bernstein.

We also shared the goods on the rest of our loyal small biz 'ohana, including Wailuku Coffee Co., Three's Bar & Grill and Manoli's Pizza Co. Lots of holidays deals and party specials happening right now. Check 'em out!

Thanks for tuning in. We appreciate you.

My groovy co-host Shawn Michael and I delivered a fun and frisky show this morning, with lots of good news from our awesome community here in paradise.

From Buddha and the community to "Les Miserables" and stealing rhythms, we covered a wide span of information to jump-start your weekend. We're a bit sleep-deprived, strange and silly, but we're smart and caring, so you gotta love us.   ;-)

We shared about our small biz 'ohana, and talked story with some sweet  ladies named Cindy, including Cindy Eiting of Stella Blues and Cindy Schumacher of the Maui Weekly.

Take some time to peruse www.mauiweekly.com, and read Cindy's article on the Maui Tibetan Buddhist Dharma Center in this week's edition here: http://www.mauiweekly.com/page/content.detail/id/511641/The-Buddha-s-Birthday.html.
Also, don't forget about the FREE SHOW at Stella's tomorrow night with beloved Hawai'i boy, John Cruz. (handsome photo below).  ;-)
Doors open at 6 p.m., and show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Thanks to our engineer Garry for always steering us clear, and to our bon-vi-vant Paul Janes-Brown for keeping us in touch with his arts and theatre report.

"The Weekly Dish" August 16, 2013

Hi!

Thanks for turning your dial to "The Weekly Dish" radio show, live each and every Friday morning on KAOI 1110Am/96.7Fm.  It's another beautiful day on Maui, and we're proud to serve you!

This morning, we welcomed Chef Travis Morrin from Three's Bar & Grill. Travis is such a nice and cool guy, and quite the talented chef and restaurant owner.

He shared about Three's new food truck., and we had some good laughs. So much goodness being served from this fine South Maui locale.

We talked to Kimie' off the air, but she was unable to make the live interview as scheduled, as she lost her voice after singing 'til late last night. She is recovering from her fierce performance on O'ahu for YOZA's bodacious CD release party, which included our buddies from the Kings of Spade as well. Congrats to YOZA! Can't wait to hear her record. ;-)

We gave Kimie' a lot of love, and shared two tracks off her new CD, "To The Sea." We played the sweet and groovy track "Make Me Say" (featuring Imua Garza) and the title track. (Listen to the end of the show for the full version of her "To The Sea" song.)

You can sway and smile with her at Stella Blues tomorrow night during her late-night show with Maui's Ekolu Kalama. (Check out all the phenomenal talents Stella's has lined-up for this weekend in the fliers below.)

We covered some of the news and views in the Maui Weekly, and delivered the happs across the music and arts scene. Visit www.mauiweekly.com, and check out our small biz 'ohana below.
Thanks for listening to The Weekly Dish, a delightful recipe for Maui's community and entertainment news. Keep it real.
